The Buddha teaches us that practicing dana (generosity) helps to weaken the fetters of greed, ill-will, and delusion. Some ways we practice dana are listed below:
Offer time
สละเวลาส่วนตัวเพื่อช่วยงานของวัด
- Help is always appreciated to weed the gardens, water and fertilize the many fruit trees, remove garbage from the forest which blows in with storms, clear walking paths and groves from downed branches, and so forth. If you have additional skills to offer such as office skills, cleaning skills, construction skills, landscaping skills, and so forth, please contact the board members (see Contact page) to coordinate particulars.
Offer food to monks
ถวายอาหารแด่พระสงฆ์
- Monks are kalyanamitta, or what the Buddha calls “good friends”. Good friends help each other in their spiritual practice and depend upon each other. Our monks follow the Buddha’s 227 training rules, including eating nothing between Noon and dawn, and depend entirely on the food we offer them each day. Please arrive around 10:30 a.m. to participate in this dana.
Donate money
บริจาคปัจจัยเพื่อประโยชน์ของวัด
- Your donation will go toward paying monthly utilities, monastery debt, monks travel, etc. If you wish to donate for a particular project, indicate this on your payment. Monks are forbidden to touch currency, therefore if you wish to donate money to SFM, you can do so using the links below, or by using Zelle money transfer app. Use treasurer@sarasotaforestmonastery.org to transfer funds from your US bank account to our Zelle account. If you would like a financial report from the monastery treasurer, you can request one on the Contact page. Sarasota Forest Monastery is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, so your financial donations are tax-deductible.
