In the early morning, the monks go on their alms round in the Englewood area. Upon returning, they join the overnight visitors in completing the morning chores, which usually take about half an hour.
The laypeople begin preparing food around 10:00 a.m. and offer the meal to the monks at 10:30 a.m. Afterward, they share a potluck meal either on the patio or in the kitchen area. Any additional chores or tasks that need to be done by overnight guests in the afternoon will be announced before the laypeople’s mealtime. Otherwise, overnight guests are free to continue their own practice quietly for the remainder of the day.
Overnight guests who wish to discuss their practice or any matters arising during their stay may do so either after the morning or afternoon chores. Day visitors who wish to meet the monks can expect to see them around 11:30 a.m., when they typically finish their meal at the main building.
There is no formal group practice at the monastery from Monday to Saturday unless otherwise announced in the News and Upcoming Events section of this website.
On Sundays, we have a weekly program where the monks lead group chanting and meditation sessions. Please refer to the section Weekly Program on Sundays for the details of the schedule on Sundays.
